【摘要】:Theiodinevalueofafattyacidproductisameasureoftheunsaturatedfattyacidcontentofthatproductandconsequentlyameasureoftheeaseofoxidationordryingcapacityofthatfattyacidproduct.Thistestmethodmeasurestheunsaturationasiodinevaluebyadditionofaniodine/chlorinereagent.Theamountofreagentabsorbedisdeterminedbybacktitratingtheexcessreagentandcomparingittoablankdetermination.Insamplescontainingconjugateddoublebonds,theiodinevalueobtainedisempiricalsincethereagentdoesnotreactstoichiometricallywithconjugatedunsaturation.Wherenoconjugationispresent,theiodinevalueobtainedisameasureofthetotalunsaturation.Byusingproperspecimenweights,theempiricalvaluesobtainedareusefulforcomparativepurposes.Thistestmethodwasdevelopedinordertoreplacethehazardoussolvent,carbontetrachloride,usedinTestMethodD1959withthelesshazardousandmoreavailablesolvents,iso-octaneandcyclohexane.Asdataonthesatisfactoryuseofothersolventsbecomesavailable,thistestmethodwillbeamendedtoincludethosesolvents.Thistestmethodshouldhaveapplicabilitytofattyacidsandoilsotherthantalloilfattyacidbutthatpossibilityhasnotbeeninvestigated.1.1ThistestmethodcoverstheWijsprocedurefordeterminationofunsaturation(iodinevalue)oftalloilfattyacids.1.2Iodinevalueisameasureoftheunsaturationofoilsandfattyacidsandisexpressedintermsofthenumberofcentigramsofiodinepergramofsample(weightpercentofabsorbediodine).1.3Whenthistestmethodisusedtodeterminetheiodinevalueoffattyacidshavingconjugatedsystems,theresultisnotameasureoftotalunsaturated,butratherisanempiricalvaluethataffordsacomparisonofunsaturation.TotalunsaturationofconjugatedsystemsmaybemeasuredinaccordancewithTestMethodD1541.1.4Thetestmethoddescribedhereisnotreliablefortalloilfattyacidscontaininganappreciablequantityofrosin.1.5ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
